Frequently asked questions
Which regime should I choose?
Whichever produces lower tax for your specific income and deductions — this calculator compares both instantly. Broadly, the New Regime favours those with few deductions; the Old Regime favours those with significant 80C/HRA/home-loan claims.
Can I switch regimes every year?
Salaried individuals can switch regimes each financial year. Those with business income face restrictions on switching back.
What deductions are allowed under the New Regime?
Mainly the standard deduction (₹75,000) and employer's NPS contribution — most other exemptions (80C, HRA, home loan interest) are not available.
How is cess calculated?
A 4% Health & Education Cess is added on top of the income tax computed after any applicable rebate.
