Frequently asked questions
Why isn't this just the average of my individual returns?
A simple average treats every holding equally regardless of size — a small holding with a huge return can skew a plain average misleadingly. Weighting by amount invested gives a truer picture of your actual overall return.
Does this account for when each investment was made?
No — like CAGR, this is a point-in-time snapshot. For a return that accounts for timing across multiple holdings and cash flows, use the XIRR Calculator instead.
